SLEEP APNEA

SLEEP APNEA

Individuals suffering from sleep apnea have trouble breathing while they sleep and often, they stop breathing for a few seconds, causing their brains to wake. This can happen hundreds of times each night, which adds up to an interrupted sleep cycle. Most people aren’t even aware of it! All they know is that they wake up groggy and tired. We treat the three major types of sleep apnea—obstructive, central and mixed—to help you get back to sleeping soundly.

CAN'T TOLERATE CPAP?

Sleep Apnea and snoring are serious conditions, not only for the person suffering with them but for their bed partner as well (what we like to call “second hand sleep apnea”). If you’ve been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and have not been able to tolerate CPAP, an oral appliance might be right for you!

ORAL APPLIANCES

A mandibular advancement device is one such oral appliance used in the treatment of sleep apnea. They are worn in the mouth overnight and look like sports mouth guards. Their purpose is to ease the lower jaw forwards with the use of metal hinges to make breathing easier.

Another is a tongue retaining device, which acts as a kind of splint to keep the tongue in place and open the airways.
